Hello everyone. My father bought this cannonball (if it is a cannonball) at some little antique auction a while back because it looked just like a solid shot 6 lb ball from the revolutionary war that I found on our property with a metal detector by the Brandywine river in PA. The other day I was picking at a soft spot in the rust and discovered the soft spot was really a wood plug and I kept picking to reveal a hole with some metal sticking up in the center of the hole. And now I wonder if this is a civil war fragmenting ball and if its still charged and or dangerous. Take a look I attached pictures of this ball. If you look very carefully in some of the pictures you can see what appears to be a "C" or "G" stamped next to the hole. In the last picture I put it side by side with the revolutionary ball I dug that was confirmed by the Brandywine Battlefield Museum. I need to know if this ball could be loaded/filled with powder and what to do with it if that could be the case. Thanks for your help.

Yes and it looks live... BE CAREFULL !

Empty outside... slowly and then rinse out in bucket of water.
old powder is volatile...
Use a long straw or plastic stick of some sort...
and scape it gently out.

I DO NOT recommend using metal.

Btw ... I like that bayonet piece.

Oh no really? I do not want to mess with it at all in that case :0 . Oh yeah the dagger is a 18th-19th century Indo-Persian Pesh Kabz dagger with bone or ivory grip. These nasty looking daggers are designed to bust through chainmail armor. I have two of them, one has a 12 inch blade.
