Hi all!
More work and play on the cape last week,
not a lot of hunting, scanned some beaches, got a lot of rings & coins,
A 'Chisel' Tungsten ring stood out as the best find
Packed & headed home, looking to beat the RT 93 afternoon traffic,
Laurie sees a sign for a scenic overlook, so we stop for a peek.
I read the plaque which describes the area given as conservation/recreation
by the family who settled there in the 1600s.
Out comes the Etrac & Joey, and I brave the viscious Cape Cod brambles
in search of a worthy find.
15 minutes and within 25 feet of the parking lot, 3 nice finds.
Ornate Buckle & Tongue. (Did this style have a chape?, is it a shoe buckle? )
Scabbard tip/strap end.
Octagonal button/cufflink.
All the copper & brass I've found in Cape soil has been toasted, (button & scabbard tip are two examples, even wheat cents are pretty smooth)
The buckle never sank into the soil, was setting just under the leaf litter along with the can tops I found there.
Back on the road in time to beat the traffic too!
I'll make a return next year to search the rest of the area...
The carving that was discarded in the firewood pile at the house
qualifies as a find also
Thanks for looking & HH all
