Hi all!
More work and play on the cape last week,
not a lot of hunting, scanned some beaches, got a lot of rings & coins,
A 'Chisel' Tungsten ring stood out as the best find ::)
Packed & headed home, looking to beat the RT 93 afternoon traffic,
Laurie sees a sign for a scenic overlook, so we stop for a peek.
I read the plaque which describes the area given as conservation/recreation
by the family who settled there in the 1600s.
Out comes the Etrac & Joey, and I brave the viscious Cape Cod brambles
in search of a worthy find.
15 minutes and within 25 feet of the parking lot, 3 nice finds.
Ornate Buckle & Tongue. (Did this style have a chape?, is it a shoe buckle? :help: )
Scabbard tip/strap end.
Octagonal button/cufflink.
All the copper & brass I've found in Cape soil has been toasted, (button & scabbard tip are two examples, even wheat cents are pretty smooth)
The buckle never sank into the soil, was setting just under the leaf litter along with the can tops I found there. :o
Back on the road in time to beat the traffic too!
I'll make a return next year to search the rest of the area...
The carving that was discarded in the firewood pile at the house
qualifies as a find also
Thanks for looking & HH all

I'm not sure how old that great looking buckle is Herbie but I'm pretty sure it was made before Tennessee became a state in 1796. Great find my friend and another good hunt, Quindy.

Re: Cape Cod Colonial

Thanks Hogge,
I was thinking it was pretty early, the 5 petal flowers are 'Tudor Roses' I believe...
Imagine that it sat on the surface for centuries, that's the only reason there is detail & some gold remaining,
HH

Good to see ya still getting at it Herbie, :hello:
I'd have some doubts about your buckle being any older then 1850's or so it just looks to thinly made.Looks like the style of sash type buckles to me.
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:

You have some doubt, I have no doubt. Definitely not Colonial but at least it's in decent condition.
Didn't want to come off to strong. ;D But yes nice to have it in such good shape one piece.
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:

Remember IP, some "can't handle the truth" although I don't think Herbie is not one of them.

Nice Buckle man,
The Dinky looks like a genuine "Dinky" cool find.

I know he is not one of them, otherwise I would not be joking around with Timekiller. Well maybe I would. :laughing7:

After the whole Continental dollar thing I think Herbie is well prepared emotionally for just about anything. ;D

Nice finds!! Someone carved into wood, the face off of the shroud of Turin. Supposedly the shroud that covered Jesus after death.
