Dug this yesterday but the date looks messed up. hit the old home place and was working slow in an area with trash. Out of the trash came a coin reading "iffy" but coin in different directions at diff. times so I dug and BANG! Make out H A L F, and E T poss Y on the edge.
----what's up with the date, 1807-1836 was the mint dates from what I've read, but the 3 looks to be over something? any help would be great.

SilverFreak, I've read any and all you put out and then some...the only reason I got this coin was from stuff you and others put out over the net and in the book--works for the E-trac, as well as, the SE. THANKS

Wow, what a coin find, 3Ringer!! ;D ;D

But I have no idea what variety your half is? :icon_scratch:
Hopefully, someone can chime in as to what date/overdate/counterfeit variety you've got there?

Congrats!

Is it my imagination or does that look to be silverplated? It looks like the plating is worn off the high spots.

I would have to say it s definitely counterfeited as you can see the plating wore off some spots an the famous green stuff copper gets when it comes out of the ground..

I cannot find any capped with an overdate on the third number.
Best if you get someone who knows coins to check it out in person.
Great find!!!

I'll take it to a coin dealer in the area and see what they say, don't know anything about it so from what I'm reading this is the best bet. fake or not it will still be my best coin find to date LOL, just makes me want to hit the ground harder ;D

thanks again and HH

looks like one of the dates is 1835

but that can't be correct either
because the 1835's 3 is rounded on top not flat

1855 is possable But then they were seated

Plus overdate coins were only one year apart.

Cool Counterfeit

Does it pass the ring test? Does it have any weight to it? It does look counterfit to me. i also found
a counterfit Bust half, then i found a real one, i love em both. Congratulations on the nice find.
