Went out today in search of the elusive street project and actually found more than one. In fact, I found two only about 25 miles from home. The first one I went to was a Main Street Reconstruction project that is expected to last the entire summer. Recent rains made this spot undetectable without hipboots, so I moved on.
The site I chose to detect looked a lot dryer, and was in a very old residential neighborhood. The sod had been taken off the boulevard for about a block on both sides of the street. Before I even got the detector out of the car, I eyeballed the Mercury dime just sitting on a little pedestal of dirt. Obviously made visible due to the recent rains.
The 1877cc Quarter was about 1/2" deep not far from the gigantic oak tree in the picture.
Note that this tree actually sticks out into the street.
In addition to the quarter and dime, I also got some early wheat cents, Three Indian head cents, a set of keys on a key ring which rusted away, a small charm pin, a small marble (another eyeball find), a button, and some kind of brass thingy with a glass cover. (Might have been a compass).
