Folks sure had a lot of time on their hands back in the day to be able to make this piece. :laughing7:
I was surprised you knew this used to be an 11th Corp, Army of the Potomac badge.

Maybe this was given to someone special as a love token? :icon_scratch:

At first, I didn't know what it was but someone more civil war savvy than me (read that as anyone!) identified it. I am going to research it to see if I can find someone in the 11th corp with the initials J.H. There will probably be several.

Nice and what great design! How can someone tell it was an 11th corps badge and not a silver pin?

That is a good question.:icon_scratch: Provenance is part of it. It came from a Union camp near Hagerstown, Md. and was among several other Union relics found there. If it were just a silver pin it should have had a hallmark or something on the back shouldn't it? And, it being carved makes me and the other more civil war knowledgeable people who have seen it strongly believe it is a Corp badge.
Can I say with 100% certainty that it is a Corp badge? No, but I am 99% sure and that's about as sure as I need to be for my own satisfaction.:icon_thumright:
