Were the grounds of limits or illegal to detect at night? My sound is gone on my computer.

Nite hawks, or as we call the Sh#te hawks, are a disease that needs to be wiped out. Earlier this year I had permission to detect a local farmers field that I had been wanting to go on for ages. It had everything going for a potentially good site, it was close to fields that had turned up everything from bronze age axes to Victorian coins and all in good condition for the area. On the Friday the farmer had disced the field until it was as smooth as a pool table. We had permission to detect from the Sunday but when the farmer saw his field on the Saturday morning it was a mess. There must have been a gang nite hawking for that amount of damage to have been done and the farmer was incensed. He called me up and told me that there was to be no metaldetecting on his fields ever again. I decided to go and see him to try to placate him and, fortunately, about three weeks later he let me have a small 20 acre field. Since then three men were arrested and charged with criminal damage but only got 150 hours of community service. If they had been caught on a scheduled site they could have got 5 years, I would have castrated them as well.

Sorry about my rant but I feel strongly about this.

The crazy thing about this is, someone knows these girls. I'm sure they have had a talking to. Much less the embarrassment they have to endure the rest of their detecting career. Sucks to be you. Besides, IS IT REALLY WORTH IT?????? It reminds me of the scumbags in Michigan that feel the need to snag spawning trout rather than catch them legally in the lips. Just don't let me catch you on my sites. Just saying. :angry5:

Yeah that really ticks me off, too. There is really no reason to do that sort of thing. How inconsiderate must a person be to disregard the massive impact they will have on the image of the whole hobby?

Then again, it's the typical mentality of a criminal. If they cared about that stuff, they wouldn't be doing what they do.

At least that BBC news piece tried to make a distinction between the legal guys and the crooks.
