I went out today with Dusted's family to this same area. The general level of mineralization was amazing! You can't really tell from looking at the ground, but black sand saturated it just about everywhere. I tried to use my Gold Bug II, but no matter what setting I used, it gave off a constant hit signal. I even thought it was broken for awhile. Then I took my rock pick magnet and touched it to the ground in a dozen or so spots. Every time the magnet got coated with an inch and a half of black sand! As I walked a nearby wash, the black sands were so thick you could see them weave along the bottom. So I whipped out the Infinium, and it had no problem with the mineralization at all. I found antique nails, but no nugs. Dusted found all kinds of ore samples with plenty of micro-gold in them. Extraction presents challenge though.

Despite the dead battery and heat it was fun. Pushing the jeep sucked but hey, it was probably the best exercise we got all day. Lol. Can't wait to get out there again and check out the old buildings we found on maps. Miss April is dying to get out there again.

Dusted and I walked along the bottom of the wash and saw several places where seams had been chopped out of the bedrock. Looks like everything had been cleaned out pretty good at that spot. I would love to vacuum out some of the cracks we saw though! The bedrock poked up through the overburden all over the place. And as you walked along the color of the bedrock changed.

Dusted, I am buried at work right now, but would love to hit that area again, and check out the main mines. Vacation starts July 4th through 14th, and will be up in Durango area prospecting in high country, but when I get back I will be game! You should try to come up by yourself and hit the high country with me. Probably too high in elevation and too difficult of terrain for the little ones.
