"CHARCOALMAKERS IN THE MINE DUMPS 2" BIG FAT SILVER CROWN

Hi all, Went back to the charcoal pit at about 6 pm tonight and stayed til all most dark. The temp was still over 97 degrees and i don,t think its any cooler now.had a dig for about 4 hours and finally found about the best coin i,m ever going to find on this site.Sure isn't any gold left  >:( >:( >:( I,m real happy because this only the third i have ever found.A big fat 1892 english crown and also a thick silver press on a steel shaft in a shape of a bird's head and a pink glass bottle stopper. There heeps of pics of some other different things i found too, strange flower and a once lizard and pic of the dig and a piece of that hard clay i mention all the time.Enjoy

heres the first post if you want the whole story

One big hunk of a silver coin there, congrats, nothing like seeing big silver in the dirt pile! The birdie will make a nice display item, maybe call it your Dodo find! ;D

Now, about that clump of whatever in your hand, hope you washed your hands thoroughly afterwards Tinpan! :D

Very nice photos and a good post, thanks for sharing.

Don

Tinpan, nice coin but I think it might be a Half crown, the reverse of your coin shows shield in collar were as the crown of that date would have st George, have you a better picture of the coin both sides. Still a very nice find though you don't find them here very often :)

Way to go Tin! Looks like some hard digging, and way too hot. Freeeeezing here, 5 degrees this morning and winds a howling, don't want to know what the wind chill factor is.
What kind of flower is that? Won't see any of those for a few months.

That coin is sweet, shiny and way old. Love it!

P.s. What happened to the poor snake?

He may top it by actually finding a crown which would be nearly 40mm dia & have George & the Dragon on it.

Its a Halfcrown (32mm) 1892 was the last year for the Jubilee Head. Fine-£10, Very Fine-£20.

Still a great find even in the UK.

Fair enough. However, I've found that Tin's so seldom mistaken that any suspicion or doubt on my part would seem downright presumptuous.

That said, the "Good on ya, Tin!" still stands.
