Ya Jeff, this song was our anthem (effing long hairs wearing leather) as teenagers, screaming along with the chorus all drunk and stoned like the generation before us.
I remember the first time I saw this live video, I was shouting at the screen saying "Wake up people, your witnessing the birth of metal right in front of your eyes!"
One could say the Britts were always a little reserved but wow, was headbanging invented yet? How could you sit still to one of the greatest heavy metal songs ever?
I would have started a mosh pit right there in the first row!
LOL I had to re-watch & pay attention to the Audience
School for Def Maybe ?
This Guy was at least Alive. His Head was bobbin' !
he even reacted and smiled at one point.
Seen two propping their heads up with their Hands under their Chin
like this
someone was baby sitting
Maybe they were all scared of the Long-Hairs
everyone they are Filming are Behind the Band.
perhaps this is why. I was behind the Band for Jethro Tull.
Was definitely a disadvantage as far as Getting the full effect.
only other thing I can think is volume was turned way down
so people could talk while recording , and the audience was hired from a local school
for scenery. the two girls behind the children look like they are whispering to each other.
not normally possible at a Deep Purple concert.
Arguably the premier hard rock band of the ages with the Blackmore-Gillan-Lord-Paice-Glover lineup. All five were superb musicians. I quit them when Gillan left (who was at least as good as Robert Plant before he lost his voice, IMO). The heavy metal bands followed Purple - mostly noise makers. I was never a metal listener. All you need to do is listen to the live concert album, Made in Japan, and you'll have heard the gold standard.
