Chopping the Frozen Ground Gets Me a Medal

Mariah wanted to go hunting Sunday morning despite the chilly temps and frozen ground . We literally have to pound and chop with the knife and screwdriver. Not fun.She wanted to go up behind the school forest ,which is the site of some older foundations in the pines. This was fine because I was hoping the sandy soil under the pines wouldnt be as hard to dig.
Not to be...chop chop chop...but it was worth it....We got this medal?
Have no clue what it is and it has no markings on it at all. Was about four inches down and totally encased in frozen sand...I was afraid to chop apart the sand , so just put about a five inch clod in my bag and kept digging. The SL is just in pic for size comparison. Hard digging....an hour later we dug up the dollar token, same size as half dollar ...no clue on it either ...the back is the exact as front and then a couple of minutes later we dug the little Republican pin which amazed me at the shape its in for being tin.
Then it was dig ,chop, dig chop for a worthless bunch of clad and finally after we found the little dutch pin (also no markings) we called it a day....

Gypsy,

"dig ,chop,dig chop".

Think it works better if you chop, chop,
dig, chop, chop. ;)

Nice finds, and sounds like a lot of work.

Polish Eagle is symbol of Poland, but never saw
one with the cross on it. Polish flag is red and white.

have a good un..........

Nice going! neat stuff :)
chop.chop.chop...sounds like Decemberbrrrbrrrr!
It was actually in the 50's here Sunday! I hit the local swimming hole and had some great luck.
However, I can't take a decent pic of little stuff to save my life :(
I'll keep trying.

Awesome finds Gypsy! That sounds like a tough hunt with all that chippin and choppin, LOL. I looked through several Polish military badges but didn't see one like yours. Thanks for sharing the hunt and HH, Mike

Neat stuff!

I think the medal may be a costume jewelry faux medal. The central device is reminiscent of that on the Italian Order of the Crown (see below): crowned eagle with a red oval bearing a white cross.

BTW, Mariah, congratulations and many thanks for your fine work for the Salvation Army... my favorite charity!

Tell Miriah she picked a good spot, takes after her Mom obviously. One thing about kids they never give up, especially if Mom's doing the digging. Nice finds and a great girl day!
