Chunk of lead

Found this on private property in Yorktown. According to old maps, Union lines ran through this area. Measures 2.5" x 1.5" x 1" weighs 1lb 12.2 oz. Would this have been used to cast bullets? Have found several dropped/extracted 3 ringers as well. Brother in laws backyard, so this is my honey hole...lol
