Went to a new permission to today for about and hour just to see whats going on there...Its a bed and breakfast. .11acres..The inn was built in 1760s..2nd family since it was built. ..Anyway was just roaming around this field and I got this hit that said it was 6inch down. ..Dug down and it was more like 10...New it was going to be big... this is what I saw.
I could not believe it....I was over the moon
So I slowed down and about 50 feet from there I found this...thought it was the other half but I was wrong...Its the eagle. ..Now I dont know why these would be there...If they are civil war. .I know there was training camps in the area...
Any help with I'd would be great....
I do know there was fighting going on in the revolutionary war...BUT I DONT THINK SO.....Thanks in advance. ..

correction* while these types of buckles made from 1832 to 1862 -- of the crossed rifle model used from 1833 to 1839 they said in the year of 1835 only 2,800 units were delivered to the military use by he ames company * (so low numbers in general were made it seems )-- your is the crossed cannon model type (I guess that's 1840 to 1862 era?) and to find a total intact one -- two separate parts * is rare beyond rare ---very limited numbers made and thus rare to find at all and to get one undamaged and intact ..unreal. banner all day long :headbang:

George, I believe that info that Ivan gave you is on the page of that plate book that was posted.....the book page that Steve_in_Pa posted #22 post( believe that was who it was ).

But if you read that page, it says the FIRST 2500 were ordered in 1832 with thousands more ordered later, so I believe his info to be contradicted by the book.

Congratulations on your complete buckle find and also your first Banner!!!!:icon_thumleft:

I hope you can find the other 3 pieces to that sword belt, the adjustment buckle and the 2 rings that held the sword frog, the only thing that would best that would be to find the scabbard and sword that it carried!!!

holy cow! congrats on the banner! what an awesome find! so when does the tv show start?
 

That's such a great recovery. It has so much history attached to it, and the condition of your find is surprisingly good. You did really well. I never knew that some belt plates came in two separate sections of equal size. I would have figured that each piece was a separate belt plate. I've recovered pieces of two belt plates over the years, but never a whole belt plate. I don't believe we'll be seeing anything like your belt plate on T-Net anytime soon, but then again, you just never know what will happen. Love the green patina on the belt plate. The look of all the rich green patina from the belt plate upon its recovery must have been quite a sight, right up there with the color of silver and gold. :love10:
 

one of the links in the posts --post number 10 * says it was made from 1832 to 1862 and that in 1835 --the ames compny only made 2800 units that year (so not to many made in general ) -- nco officers artillery sword belt buckle -- note the 1833 to 1839 one shown in post #10 link has crossed rifles --while yours has cannons --so most likely it a 1840 to 1862 made one.

Thanks silver tree.

I thought they were 2 separate plates also...and when I uncovered it there was so much green in the hole I new it was going to be good
