Can't see the pictures real good on my phone but doesn't appear to have rings. Maybe an Enfield . Google CW bullets and see if you can find a match. Measure size, that will help. Nice find

It looks like a dropped short Whitworth (Confederate sniper rifle round) which would make it a pretty rare and very special (as well as valuable) find. If you have or can find a set of micrometers or digital calipers it would help nail down the ID, but I don't think there were any hexagonal bullets except for the Whitworths. Super find. Did you dig it yourself? If so, wherever you dug it needs to be hit and hit hard.

Yeah, sunlight does play havoc with seeing what's on your phone. Mines got a decent camera and screen, but it's pointless in bright sunlight. As for the bullet, it definitely appears to be hexagonal, with nice straight lines running along the length of the bullet. Too short to be the longer variety of Whitworth, but they did make a shorter version and this could be an example of it. Hope the OP gets us some firm dimensions to be sure. Then I try to talk him out of it.

I believe it's a .577 Enfield Bullet. Came up as a penny. I mainly coin shoot and then this pops out. Hah!

Enfields don't have 6 flat sides my friend, and I definitely wouldn't clean it. Any chance you could get some good measurements of length and diameter? Weight would be helpful as well. And just to confirm what I think I'm seeing in your pics, it does have six flat sides, correct?

IMO .577 Enfield.
As For cleaning you might could lightly brush (tooth Brush) to show the white Patina or leave it that way .

Any marks in the Cavity?

What state did you find this ? If you don't mind.

Also the Wintworth would be 45 caliber.

Some sides are flat yes but the majority of it is round. Nothing in the cavity. I'm headed back to the house and I'll post a vertical view of it looking down
