Hello all,

Hit the jackpot at a family friend's farm a few miles north of Antietam Battlefield in Maryland. Pulled only a fraction of the bullets that are in the ground out. After plotting all of our finds on a map, it seems like there might have been a little undocumented skirmish. These 50 rounds were all pulled from a 30ft by 30 ft area, with a ton more hits to dig up. Found multiple rounds in the same hole, including many holes with dropped rounds and fired rounds that impacted the earth together. It was a fun dig!

I hate to burst your bubble, but those bullets and fragments look post Civil War to me.

It's nice to dig old stuff. I see a mix of bullets here, the shotgun slug in the right side photo is 20th century as is the bullet next to it. Some of the bullets do appear Civil War, but I can't tell from the photos.

A couple may be Civil War, but like Smokey said it is hard to tell. Give 'em a bath and then you'll know! It is fun digging old bullets, and it sounds like you are in the right area to possibly dig other cool stuff too!

Been there... Done that...

Kind of reminds me of a hunt i once had.
Thought those larger fired bullets were CW era minnies. Thought maybe i had a rare variant.
Turned out to be early 20th century muzzle loading bullets.
I think i was hunting someones old shootin range...

If you are that close to the Antietam Battlefield. Keep at it. Theres bound to be some good targets nearby.

Congrats on a busy day of lead picking.
Who knows what else may be in the ground.
There was definitely a lot of activity in that location.

I didn't want to say anything... but that stuff is post CW. Here is what you are looking for, they are way bigger than those bullets you found.

Best of luck to you sir!
