I found these today in Michie,TN. I have my doubts about these buttons. Pretty close to where I found them there was an Civil War re-enactment near by so I'm thinking they might have come off of an re-enactment soldiers uniform a few years ago. Any input would be great. On the front of the buttons it has the word "Excelsior" and the back of the button has the letter N inside of what looks like a shield looking thing.

The are made in the style of Civil War period New York militia buttons, but the backs tell me that they were made much later.

They should say Waterbury or Scovell or Boyland, although odd a re-enactor would be missing buttons without being aware of it.
