That thing at the bottom is a quarter and it looks great for 12" deep, are you sure your not pulling our leg BB?? ;D

I have found the same thing in a camp site. Don't know if it is period or not, but I sure would guess it is. It may just be a common piece of horse tack from the period.

I hunt in fields too BB. It's not uncommon at all for me to find iron relics/junk at 12". The key is to keep digging because my DFX give false depth readings if the object isnt coin sized. And you just never know how deep something will be in a field that is plowed regularly.
