So some of you may remember my post from last week about getting an escort right to a civil war site from the super who is in charge of the housing development. I stated that when they broke ground there a couple fellows were allowed to hunt there and came back a few days later with handfuls of bullets, buttons, and buckles. Well, I spent about 6 hours there yesterday after it had snowed 48 hours earlier. I didn't find handfuls of civil war treasure but I found a few keepers. My very first signal was what I think is part of an old pocket watch. From the picture what do you think? Found some shot lead, a buckle, and I think part of an old pocket knife. Also found a sweet one gallon cider jar. Not sure of the age. Couldn't find the hallmark on the bottle mark website. Its a large A with what looks like the lines of a chinese temple over it. Kind of hard to describe.
Oh yeah, I thought I might have found a cannon ball last week too but there was too much water and trees roots in the way to extract it. I tried again yesterday, removed a ton of mud and muck and still couldn't get it out. It's definitely not a cannon ball, but it may be a whole cannon lol. Its long, large, rounded steel. With the mud conditions, I finally gave up.
Oh yeah, I think two of my lead pieces might be fired civil war shot gun rounds. They are the ones I'm holding separately. Any clue?
The coin is a 1904 Indian head. The edges started falling apart as soon as I tried to clean it off a little in the puddle of muck it came out of.
