I got back out to the field where I dug some buttons earlier in the week. I began my trek back to NC where I have dug some real nice relics in the past. I pulled through the private gate where I have written permission, and drove a 1/4 mile back into the woods near a large river to a series of recently plowed farming fields. I was disappointed to see that Tobacco had just been planted the day before. So I moved over to another field where I have dug other things in the past. It was a good day all in all finding some old Civilian buttons, Pottery and other iron targets. I drove back to Virginia, and was totally beat. I went to the rest room, where I washed up and checked to see if I had any ticks on me. After an inspection of my body, I felt I was ok. I got some grub, chowed down, and played with my daughter for a while. I took a shower and laid down and went to bed. Around 4:30 am, I felt something on my left collarbone. I reached over and felt to my horror, something attached to my neck!! :cussing: I arose from bed and went immediately to the bathroom mirror. I turned the light on, and saw the little nasty tick feasting on my blood! What was worse, was the purple dot underneath it! :-\ I gently pulled the pin head sized deer tick off my shoulder, crushed his sorry shell exposing the pea sized dark purple dot. Immediately I was very concerned. I waited a few hours after my wife awoke and she told me to call the Dr. I went to the Dr. office and sure enough, most likely Lymes!!!! UUUGGH! I am on my second day of antibiotics, and I have to tell you I feel lousy. Be careful out there folks.

Nice finds my friend but I'm sure you had wished you had stayed home instead of making that trip. Did you or MM say that the small ticks are more likely to be infected than the big ones? HH and hope you feel better, Quindy.

Nice collection of goodies! I didn't know that Lymes disease happened that quickly. I thought it took several days to manifest itself.

Well...it could have been on me for longer than I thought I suppose. The tick was so small, it was hard to see it other than being bloated with my blood, suggesting it had been there longer I imagine.

I have gotten bit by 3 deer ticks already this year :-\

You always get a red welt at first.Only 40 something percent of people get the red ring.

Dont forget the doctors have stocks in the antibiotics and they will put you on it either way..

Man Mike, that really sucks! No pun intended. I hope isn't Lyme disease, but stay on those anti-biotics, and good luck. :icon_sunny:

Almost makes you want winter back huh?

Sorry to hear about the tick bite. You did the right thing by seeing the doctor right away and immediately going on antibiotics. Even if the Lyme tests come back negative, you had very little to lose by being treated. Early treatment is the key to a quick recovery with Lyme disease. My whole family has had it in the past. BTW if you are feeling lousy now, it could be a reaction to the particular antibiotic you are taking. Hope you feel better soon.

This illness seems to be spreading all over . I have been bitten many times by these but never got ill .
But taking the meds to help to make sure you do not get it is the right thing to do as I see it. No use taking
a chance by not taking them .

Get some of the better spray that keeps these critters off and that will help .
I buy it at the Farm supply stores as you get more for your money and better quality stuff by doing it this way.

The Big Box store brands just do not do the trick and are weak in amount of the chem that is needed.
If we can not find any then we use Kerosene , that is what we used as kids and it works great ! Just do not use it with good clothes because it will not come out and it stains . But you will not have any ticks on you .

Sorry to hear about the lymes. I've pulled seven of the little buggers off of me this year so far, and even though the bumps get a bit nasty and take a while to heal I don't think any of them have given me lymes yet.

On a bright note, and without going into detail, just be glad it was on your neck ::) :'(

Hey Mike,

That was me-my personally trained deer tick. That's to teach you to not come to NC without calling anyone. Sorry, couldn't resist. Great collection of finds. I haven't been doing as much hunting. The ankle I sprained in Feb. keeps me from hunting my favorite hilly spots. Tried to help a former club member finds his lost WWll Tank Battalion Crest Pin yesterday but ankle gave out. Did find a ring he'd lost many years ago.

I have been lucky and never been hit with a tick, as well as niether of my dogs, but I will be out in more rugged areas in the near future.

So out of curiosity, how do you remove the little beast? I was always told vaseline on them because they breath through their skin, so the vaseline makes them back out on their own.
You mentioned you just picked it out.

And someone else mentioned permanone? I am going to go look it up.

Sorry to see that Brotha. Keep us posted on your progress.
Congrats on the relics. You always score some nice buttons.
I'm actually jealous. Not because of the finds, but because you have more hair on your chest than me. ;D :laughing9:
