I talked to a gentleman from another forum concerning the detecting ban in Clay County Fla, he was at the meeting and here is his reply, I post here so others can easily find it and know we did not lose, and the power of voicing our opinions has, when these kind of issues come up for a vote before a Board of County Commissioners or any other elected body..

Special thanks to Captain Hook for his reply to my IM............ :icon_thumright:

I spoke at the meeting concerning the metal detecting ban. At the end of the meeting we got what we wanted. The ban only covers burial grounds, cemetaries and historical sites. Also, there was a problem with the wording concerning removing or disturbing vegatation from County property. That wording was changed to state you can't cause permanent damage to the vegatation. If you remove a plug and put it back all is ok. It's no different than a golfer doing basically the same thing.

If you ever have a problem like we had here in Clay County make sure you post it on several forums. I did that and the National Metal Detecting Director got involved. We had several hundred emails go to all the County Commissioners from accross the country thanks to him.

Have a great day.

WTG on your actions to protect your right to metal detect :hello2: I believe that you went about it in a proper and focused way and hope that this will inspire others that may face this problem in the future. The areas that you mention in the ban in my opinion should be banned, the rest left to the good people to enjoy in the way they see fit. The one thing that did me a chuckle was replacing your plugs, as it will not permanently hurt the ground. Look at any golf course and you will see that grass will again take hold if all divots are replaced. It just becomes of a matter of courtesy and respect for property. Again, well done :icon_thumleft:
