Is it a good idea to clean coins and if so what do you use?

I clean my older coins up a little with baking soda and water,I have used vinegar on some of them as well,Neither will damage nor depreciate the value of a dug coin.

Boiling peroxide bath for hours & hours with copper coins, it wont mess with the patina yet still clean the contaminants off it! Silver is best cleaned with water, baking soda & salt bath as it converts the tarnish back to silver instead of removing it & thus loosing silver weight!

There are many methods. I just throw mine into a rock tumbler containing aquarium gravel, water, and a spot of dish soap. Tumble for half hour, rinse, tumble again.
