I found out something very interesting yesterday.
I started cleaning some very old Muslim coins.
I used a sonic vibrator, a little water and a spoon of comet.
I put in 12 of these Mid East coins and 1 reale spanish silver coins a few chinese silver coins and turned the vibrator on. I let it run for a couple hours. Guess what EVERY Mid East coin desolved to nothing. The other coins were fine.
I would now say that I think that the Muslim coins were actually made in china and had no silver in them at all.
GOOD ;D ;D ;D

What were they made of that caused them to disolve? Were they made of soap or what?

Well, either soap or maybe a coin that was reduced to a corrosion disk in the shape of a coin, so that when "cleaned" it disigrated because there was no true metal left in it.

I have no idea except EVERYTHING was gone. I had a few other REAL silver coins in with these things and even they were damaged nd yes it was a ULTRA SONIC cleaner. Beats 5,000 times a second.
I use it to clean jewelry but with out the COMET .

Peg Leg,
The coins that disolved; were they silver in color before you put them in the ultrasonic cleaner?

YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS
My 21 year daughter thought it would be funny :-\ >:( if she removed the Islamic coins just to see my reaction. Well she saw my reaction ALL RIGHT :'(. I do not mind a joke but don't mess with my gold or silver items.
I put the coins back into the machine and added some soft scrub liquid.
It is running right now.
They are looking much better NOW that they did not desolve away ;D ;D
Now that I think about it it was

LOL! That's one funny girl! I give her kudos for the prank. And a second kudos for keeping it going for so long.
