I found this piece yesterday in an area that has produced many cut reales and other mid-to-late 18th century Spanish relics. However, this cut piece is too thin to be a milled coin but it is most certainly silver. As you can see below, it's quite worn but you can make out a few features. Can anyone give me a clue on the type it is and maybe a link to an example online?

Huh? Our friend that was along with me believed it to be some type of hammered coin but agreed that it didn't resemble any type that he's found before. Hopefully the experts will chime in eventually .

Ok here's a better close-up side-by-side with the cut reale I found last year.

While it's obviously not a standard minted reale like the other, it is certainly cut to the same size and appears to have near identical weight. I don't care if it's made from tin (even though it isn't), I just want to try and identify what I have.

It looks like a 1/2 real....Mexico Mint, why can't it be a cob?

PcolaBoy,

I agree with Trez. 1/2 reale, if your finding 1/2's you mite also get a 1/4 reale .8 grams.

Thanks for the comments. If I could find a fraction of the reales that Relicdude has found in my area, I would really have something to brag about ;D. I think I'm going to try and raise the bar a little this year by setting a reasonable goal in finding some 8 escudo coins next :tard: Hey, I can dream can't I? :D

If you found ANY mercury dimes, you found them while cleaning your finds bucket to make room for reales ;D I just wish we had hooked up years and years ago before things got so strict about MD'ing!!
