Coin cleaning

Finally got my coins cleaned good enough to read

These are before and after cleaning pictures
Coins involved;
1803 large cent
1880 Indian head
1901 Indian head
Buffalo nickel (1936 or 1938) not a D :-)

I had tried several methods being new to trying to clean up my finds.
These are ones I'm keeping otherwise I wouldn't have attempted to clean them lol

I started with dishsoap and a soft toothbrush to get rid of loose dirt.
Then I gave it a few short baths in peroxide I microwaved for 30 seconds
Dried it off and tried a pencil eraser to remove darkness with no avail
Then I put a small amount of regular vegetable oil on it and let it sit for a week
After that I got an SOS pad and gently worked at it to get rid of the darkness the peroxide and oil caused.
The SOS pad worked the best but I had to keep stopping to rinse to make sure I didn't file it down.

There could be better,safer methods but I was new to this and easily corrupted by the internet and curiosity lol

Mineral oil works well, so does olive oil. I have some large coppers that have been soaking for 6 month's, every now and then i hit them with a Qtip and back into fresh min.oil they go. This i use for kg's and lc's that are rough, and just to get a date off em

I have Olive oil but have yet to use it..need more coin finds so I can test that out lol.

I alsoheard Lee & Perrins Worcestershire sauce does amazing for a 24 hour soak.
