I purchased this air sealed direct from the machine bag from my bank as they emptied their machine that is for the public use, this machine yielded a great haul............here are some pics...... 20171111_185650.jpg 20171111_185431.jpg 20171111_185844.jpg 20171111_185949.jpg

I obviously found lots of silver, but I found many 2012-2016 p and ds that had silver edges, the pics where my hands are in are all 2012-2016 ps and ds as you can see some have silver edges, no s mint marks at all, are these silver or not? 20171111_185949.jpg 20171111_190142.jpg 20171111_011435_001.jpg

All of the newer coins were broken out of mint sets, and if I recall correctly, only the "S" mint marks were silver.

All modern (1992-present) silver Kennedy half dollars will have an 's' mintmark. Your "silver" edged 'p' and 'd' mintmark coins are plated. They were plated and sold by 3rd party companies to separate "collectors" from their money.

Another way to check is to drop them one at time and compare the sound they make to the sound a silver half makes when dropped in the same way.

The weight is factual data that you can rely on - get a scale that weighs in grams , 90 percent silver half dollars weigh 12.50 grams - 40 percent weigh 11.50 , the rubbish halfs weigh 11.34 grams .

If you want to erase any doubt weigh them individually.

Another way to check is to drop them one at time and compare the sound they make to the sound a silver half makes when dropped in the same way.

You could weigh them or drop them. It doesn't matter because there is essentially no chance what-so-ever that they are silver if they are marked 'D' or 'P'.

. . . Your "silver" edged 'p' and 'd' mintmark coins are plated. . .
