Colonial Copper Finds and Attributions

Hey Everyone, While trying to attribute my 2 recent finds I thought it might be fun to see all the colonial coppers you guys have found along with attributions of die varieties. I have a 1787 Conn. M.33.1.z.19 at an R-5+ rarity,(30-35 known). The second, found on Sat., has yet to be ID'd. The counterfeit British Half Pence I've narrowed down to 2. Vlack-3-71B or Vlack 3-74A. I will still have some experts look at these to positively ID both as I attributed this one myself by 2 days worth of examining it. I'm sure everyone here would love to see all Conn.,Mass, Vt., NJ, or any other RARE copper finds with attributions. I know I would. Some of these are worth BIG $$ even out of the ground. I will post new pics and attributions as soon as I get ID's. Hogge

Here's my best CT, was Id'ed a while back but don't remember the reference info.. It was considered scarce which I think is 200-300 known, someone can correct me if that number is not accurate.

PS... That was just the icing on the cake that day, the cake was a button. Found Apr. 2002.

For my dirt it's definitely a keeper. American colonials aren't jumping at me every day either.

Hey Don, I'm sure you'll read this thread, you ever remember trying to ID my not great Vermont? I think I may have taken a quick look and thought it was common but hell I ain't too trustworthy.

Otherwise I would have never known anything
about it. This coin will be goin to Heritage auctions
next month. This coin is a 1784 imitation half penny.
It, too, is an R-5.

That's AWESOME!.....I hope both or one of mine turns out to be something good. Any idea on how much you can get for it? Heritage is whom I will contact too. Can't wait to see the other "goodies" that will be posted here.

Well, unfortunately, the Rarity on CT coins is high for a lot of them, since there were so many varieties, but that does not equate to a valuable coin just because there are not many serious CT collectors.(Supply and Demand thing) However, sure is nice finding those more scarce and rare varieties, heck, in the future, there just might be more collectors of the CT state coinage and then due to supply and demand the prices will rise.

My son has been rather lucky in finding the more rare varieties of some coppers and here are three of them.

A 1785 Vermont Immune Columbia coin, I believe less than 30 known to exist, this coin is listed in Red Book.
Also two of his CT coppers are rather scarce

A 1787 Miller 36-k.3 only about 3-4 known (R-7)

A 1788 Miller 16.4-L.2 or a Miller 14.1-L.2 (not 100% sure of the Obverse side due to condition of coin) but either one is Very Rare R-6 ratings.

LOL, my CT coppers are barely recognizable yet alone attributable by variety. I do have most of my NJ coppers attributed by variety and both of my Vermont's, of which one is a Rare variety.

1786 Vermont landscape copper Ryder 7 variety. Found last August.




1787 New Jersey copper Maris 63-s variety. Thanks to Don in SJ for the attribution on this one.
