Hey guys,

The spread here represents 2 separate coastal sites, an early colonial crossing and trash pit. The first site is Gheenoe78's and my go to Rev War site that seems to produces the occasional military pewter. Having hit the site dozens of times, the targets are few and far between however those that remain are the deep good stuff. Among the pewter partials was this pewter jewelled cufflink. It is the earliest type of linked button or cufflink, circa 1690-1750.

Back in October, the site produced a similar jeweled cuff-

Fresh out of electrolysis, I suspect this is a flint holder for a flintlock of some kind.

The site also produced a bunch of surface finds: 18th century tankard, stoneware, and 2 teeth...one Megaladon partial and the other a mystery.

The second site was a colonial trash pit, however was farmed up through the early 1900s. Among the early digs was a brass bell, round balls, 4 flat buttons, and a harmonica reed. Any ideas on the age of this bell?

A few coins popped out of the mud- 1906/1907 Barbers and a 1873 IHP

Thanks for looking!

Very cool. Check that glass cufflink for something underneath. There could be an inlay that the glass gem is sitting on top of.

Thanks GW, I know the steward crystal ones often has inlays but this yellowed gem is difficult to see through. I'll get it under the jewelers loop and report back

I found a couple this year. Just regular glass gems with designs underneath. Had to wet mine to see the inlays.

Here are the ones I found. A silver mourning urn & one in gold with a crown over 2 birds.

Also pictured is the gold one before i washed it off. Had no idea what was waiting under there.

Used the LED from the jewelers loop and can make out a silver inlay, perhaps a 6 point star but the glass is very opaque so it's hard to be certain. Congrats on yours, fine examples
I thought there might be something in there. It has a certain "fire" in its look.

In person there is definitely a silver....thing inside. My wife described it as a spider, but looks like a silver star to me. Will need natural light to share it with you guys. How such a fragile pewter survived in the salt surf for 300 years is just crazy. This is why I am a button guy- personal items like this provide a snapshot into the 18th century
