Walked onto the site turned on the F22 and started swinging. This was in my first hole. I don't know what it is yet but I'm pretty sure it's old, silver and hand engraved. I'm sure someone can tell me what it is pretty quick. I can't complain about my silver coin drought with finds like this one though

EDIT: This has been identified. It's called a Pomander and here is a link to more info and a similar piece

Beautiful, I am going to take a Guess and say it is a Tea ball or used to put tea leaves in and dunking in a cup for tea. Colonial is a real possibility! Paul:coffee2:

Thanks but doesn't a tea ball have only one compartment and is usually "ball" shaped and covered in holes. A pomander is the only thing it could be.

Why are we still taking guesses on this item when we have a confirmed ID? Maybe you should ask the moderators to change the thread title as it would seem that many do not take the time to read the thread and initially we didn't know what it was. I think the thread title is unfortunately affecting the number of Banner votes.

I contacted the moderaters and edited my original post again. I thought the link I added last weekend would end the speculation. Is the link working?

Good job on the title change -- hopefully this item will get the attention it deserves. The hand engraving on this item is spectacular.

It looks like a pomander to me. They didn't bathe very often in the "good old days" so they would put perfumes of different types to hide/cover the smells.Figure they used corncobs for terlit paper back then....
