Went out this morning to one of my hunted out woods sites. Wanted to try my new detector there. Ended up with several buttons a musket ball. Buckle and buckle pieces. Wanted to keep going and get a coin but detected so hard I flung off my coil lol. Added pic of my usa button I just got. Was don troianis. Can't wait to get my new display case finished so I can display it. And pic from last week my friend from wv came down and found a 1808 half cent.

Nice colonial finds! I also find it interesting that in the pic of Mary Handy’s grave stone it looks like her fathers name was spelled wrong and corrected, originally “Henry” then “Handy”. I could imagine how upset the family would have been with a spelling error on a head stone.

That buckle is the star of this show. Nice early one. The tombac is really nice too but that buckle is killer

I like the tombac and the early buckle, but I am most tickled that you posted photographs of the early Handy gravestones. I descend through the Somerset County, MD Handy family, and will add those photos to my family tree database. Can you tell me (without giving away any of your site info) if they in an old overgrown family farm plot like they appear to be, or if they are in a known "public" cemetery? Thank you
they are near snow hill over grown in the woods going to ask owner if i can clean it up before the trees get to big think he faught under general lee in rev war

This appears to be a significant source of new info in this family's genealogy. There was conflicting info about this mother and son, and their immediate family, that these gravestones clears up. Mary's gravestone is one of the most informative I have seen. It not only gives her first and married name (Handy), but also her middle (King), which is a great clue to her ancestry further back. Along with her death date and age, it also confirms for us her father, with his middle name to boot! Robert Jenkins Henry (initially incorrectly inscribed as Mary's married name Handy). But it gets even better, as it gives Mary's husband's (aka. "consort") name as William Handy. There were several William Handy's, but this helps determine which one she was married to, being the Captain William Handy. Thanks again to the OP for posting these photos, and if there any more I would be most obliged to see photos of them?

Very nice finds C-1! That button is gorgeous . Love the pattern on it. Send out a pic of your new display case when you get it. I'm guessing that you won't have any difficulty filling it. Congrats.

glad it helps, they are the only headstones there. im giving the pic to the local museum so they can have the info that a revolutionary war soldier lived here in town, giving a display of colonial relics to display also. gave them some civil war relics and they made a updated display in the museum with all new cases. if ever in snow hill should stop and see it.

the tube shape brass is likely a tip for a buggy pole.

the skinny curved brass is the center paddle of a shoe buckle.

got a similar Tombac dandy at my 1723 Colonial in Ulster County, NY. mine had the flower "sunburst" that reached to the edge of button. sold it for about $20

DO NOT overlook ANY hit there--- even the iron will be awesome :icon_thumleft::icon_thumright: :occasion18:
didnt think about buggy pole, thanks
