I currently use a Garrett GTI 2500 and am very pleased with it. I have tried other detectors, but after using the Graphic Imaging for sizing the target, I just can't go back to another detector. I am wanting to buy another dectector for my son and wondering how the GTI 1500 compares to the 2500. I have looked it over and know it doesn't have the depth on the graphic display, but it does on the LCD at the top and thats where I usually look any way. I certainly won't miss the talking detector and I understand the 1500 is some lighter in weight. Please let me know your thoughts on comparing the two machines.

Thanks,
Larry

they are virtually the same machine. the 2500 has true non motion all metal mode while the 1500 does not. thats the main real world differance. the other differances are just bells and whistles like the expanded screen on the 2500. it really doesnt make a differance. surface elimination is another one. i dont think the 1500 talks to you either! ::) if i had it to do over again i would get the 1500 over the 2500. the only real nuts and bolts differance is the true all metal on the 2500. if you dont think he needs that get the 1500.

Pretty well just that it doesn't have the true all metal mode or the talking feature. I don't know how old your son is, but you might want to look at the ACE 250 too.

The Garrett 1500 with the 4'' coil is real light. I had the 2500 and went to the 1500.

I just started using the 2500 with the 4.5 scorcher coil and when I have used it, All Metal mode is the way to go in tight places since you don't need motion to detect.
