I recently found this program that does Algebra problems for you in a step by step format. Basically you type in the problem and hit the solve button. It lays out the problem in a, very detailed, step by step format. It is called Algebrator.
Amazing is the first word that came to my mind.
It is available on a CD (Amazon) or you can down load it after paying for it via Pay Pal. I downloaded from Softmath. You may be able to find it cheaper, I found it discounted from its normal price $74.99 to $39.99.

If you google it, you may be able to find it cheaper.
There are several sites that will show you demos of the program. For those of you with kids in school it is well worth the investment.
