Today I returned to some land where I gained permission to hunt adjacent to a CW camp, I scanned the area for about an hour or so and only found can slaw and shotgun shell casings. So....I went across the street to the relic field and began hunting. A little more trash ...then a solid shallow tone on the old Nauty. I carefully scooped out about an inch of the soft soil from the soybean field and saw a small green disc in the hole. I pulled it out and started rubbing off the dirt. I realized it was probably a button...concave or convex depending on which side I'm looking at. As the damp soil dried from the button , I saw the circle in the center of the button. Another rub or two and i see the rays surrounding the circle. Another rub and I see the letter "C" in the circle ....WOO HOO!!!! a NC sunburst button. First one I've ever found. It has a little silver plating left on the back and no shank. I called my buddy Robert on the cell phone and told him what I found. He heads on out there and meets me in the field. He went back home to get his detector and I was going to get something to eat. Before I could get back to the truck, I found a 1902 V nickle and a 3 ringer bullet. After I ate , we hunted for another hour or so but had little more luck. As we're headed out of the field, Robert got a good target and dug a nice 2 piece button. A rather interesting unusual button. It has tiny circles all over the face as if it were the surface of the moon. A light rinsing revealed gold plating in the tiny craters.
