Amazing this book survived Hugo in 1989. I found it in my moms stuff, buncha books were too moldy to mess with... I have a strange name as it is, but she used to tell me I was lucky I wasn't named "Putnam"... ;D .. I don't know as much about family history as I should.... another cool thing about this book is the pages are most worn in the section off the coast of South Carolina...

Showed this to a book gut who said it wasn't worth much due it's condition and that it was the 3rd, not the 2nd or 1st... course he said he would give me "a coupla hundred bucks for it"...

Oh and the last picture was in the book and has "Col. Putnam" written on the back. Can anyone guess a time frame of the photo based on her dress? If that was his old lady, no wonder he spent alot of time at sea..... :-*

Interesting information written in it.

It is only fitting that the book was written by a Captain named "Furlong"

Thanks for sharing this with us, Pretty exciting.

Is Putnam a family name?
