Here are some of my recent digs. I've been lazy lately as far as taking pictures so I figured today I'd just bundle everything together. Finally after 4 years found a Barber quarter. I was begging to think they were a myth. I found the two quartz points yesterday, the are absolutely my best artifacts aside from my plummet. I believe the first one is a Squibnocket and the second one I'm not too sure, maybe a Brewerton Eared Triangle. Now for the questions: Anyone know what the holed thing is? I see a 22 on it. I think the maroon/purple tag says "Winslows Rink 191 ____ Owners Check." The back of it says "Old ____ Boston." I think it might Winslows Roller Skating Rink. I'm not sure. The pendant thing, I'm at a total loss. I was thinking maybe it was used for math or measurements or something. All three were found in the same small field. Anyone know what thing I'm holding with the loop at the top is? That little ornate buckle, any idea on the date? And lastly, can anyone date the axe head?

Lots of good finds there. Those older quarters don't pop up too much. Good digs!

Thank you, though this isn't all one day. I just bundled a bunch of hunts together.

Hmm...how does that work? Literally for hanging a sword? I just did a Google image search and could not find any examples.

Actually it would be correctly called a sword mount...used to hold the scabbard of the sword. Here is a pic of one from the Civil War.

Interesting. Would mine be from that period?

The bottom is divided into seven sections wide by 4 high. Numbered like the days on a calendar. The months are divided in to seven sections too, and are in an odd order. The first section is May, 2nd sec is August, 3rd is March, 4th is unclear, 5th is Sept and Dec, 6th is April and June, and 7th is January and Oct.

My guess is that this is a perpetual calendar for a year in which Jan 1st and Oct 1st was on a Saturday, March 1st was a Tuesday, May 1st was a Sunday, July 1st was a Friday, etc.

In 2011, Jan 1 was Sat, March 1 was a Tuesday, April was a Friday, (so far, so good) May was a Sunday (good), but June is a Wednesday (no data) and July 1st is a Friday! So, your calendar would work for 2011.

Dates when Jan 1 is a Sat occur about every 5 to 8 years. Years when Jan 1 is a Sat AND July 1 is a Friday a little rarer. It works for 2005, but in 2000 both Jan and July were on a Saturday because of leap year.
