I got out for an hour this morning in the new dusting of heavy wet snow. The ground is pretty damp so the detecting was nice :icon_thumleft:

Buttons were all that I could find again today :icon_scratch: Any guesses on when the next coin will show up? I say, two more trips...... It is there somewhere.
This makes THIRTY buttons that I have dug at this spot! Only one coin so far and that was a KG III 1806 Half Penny, in pretty rough shape too :(

One button looks home made. I dont think that it was ever a coin, probably an early flat button that lost it shank and had some holes drilled. Kinda' neat ;D One small ball button too. I dont find many of these.

The four hole button looks like an old half penny to me. Nice digs!

:icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft: I am definitely in agreement with you, Robert. This sure looks like a badly worn Colonial copper. The size and thickness match up to one. What did it read on your machine?

Kirk :hello:

After PMing with Kirk, the four holed "button" weighs 4.7 grams or 74 grains. 27 mm at the widest point. The item is for sure made of copper. Rang in as a repeating 30 - 32. Recovered from about six inches.

I have really looked at this thing hard and if it was a copper coin of some kind, there is NO detail left at all. Completetly smooth.

Yep, looks to be a worn out colonial copper that found another use.
