We continued the hunt for more roman coins but only got 15 in 4 hours (8 man hours). Sometimes, finding not many is a good thing, as we now know the limits of the site. Anyway in an area which had nothing, Dad came up smelling of roses. He got our second Celtic Silver Unit for this year.

Its not in Van Arsdell book which immediately tells you its rare. Some describe it as Extremely Rare, but in reality it's Very Rare :headbang:

Dias - 15BC-10AD 'Saltire' Silver Unit - pretty valuable in this condition.

15 roman coins
Poor Hammered Silver - Lizzy Halfgroat
Roman Bronze Child's Bracelet
bits.......

We are on fire right now, & the good news is this field is the first to be harvested in our area, some time next week :icon_thumright: Guess where I'm spending my holiday.

Found one simular to yours Cru,,,not nearly any were near as good as yours :-\

One in similar condition to ours, sold in May 09 for $600.

blankety blank cheque book and pen time!

I'm glad to say, that this one is more interested in the history. So no cheque book needed, just a few nice items to sacrifice.
Our Villa field farmer is like that ::) so we just did him and his dad a nice display with some of our finds :icon_sunny:

IMHO, it should be, based on rarity. But we all know it doesn't work like that ::) If Cru'dad beats me to the banner, after my Mint Sceat, I will have to punch him :laughing7:

I don't take holidays from work except to go detecting, so its not a special weekend, as the harvest will not be until at least the middle of next week.

I might celebrate if I get a gold coin on the 4th but that would be the only reason.

Sadly its due to rain this weekend (heavy)

Looking back at your last two posts, I don't think you'll have too wait long. After the harvest next week you'll have a lot of acres to cover. This is going to be a great couple of weeks on T-Net. I think you will need to take a couple of weeks of holidays to finish this one. I can't wait to see what comes off this new site.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

Cru, I am so impressed with that coin I had to respond. It sure is a beauty, you are finding some neat stuff lately even though the feilds are planted. I think a celtic gold coin will be under your cortes coil soon the way you are going. Great pics and post.

A beautiful coin..Id love to have that flint man.I flint knap too.Id make a killer arrowhead or two out of them.Is that stuff common there? :icon_sunny:.........HB

Re: Cortes Fights Back - 2000 Year Old Coin!!

Incredible Cru,...I'm looking for your posts cheering you on..That Gold coin #1 on your list is only a swing away.

The silver coin is as beautiful an ancient coin as I have ever seen. I never saw one like that before.

You've been bannered, again, two days in a row.

Re: Cortes Fights Back - 2000 Year Old Coin!!

Great celtic silver unit, who's the Daddy !. Got to be a banner this time :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft:

Neolithic flint scrapers are relatively common along the river course. In the right conditions, I might get 1-2 a month. (not found an arrowhead yet, that would be pretty rare!)

My Wish List no.1 is a Pot of coins (hoard), not fussy if its bronze/silver/gold. I did have a Gold Celtic coin as my no.1 for 20 years but found 1 last year.

Re: Cortes Fights Back - 2000 Year Old Coin!!

Crusader.. I have a question for you..

How deep are you guys finding these really old coins? i am curious because my dad also has a Cortes. and he loves it but gets discouraged when i get a deep target signal on my E-trac and he cant pick it up..

He is using the stock coil. do you guys have a bigger coil on there? and if so what kind?. he wants more depth. i was thinking of the 12x10 coil for him. but just wondering how you guys are doing it over the big pond..

And freaking congrats!! man i cant even fatham digging up a 2000 year old coin.. hell i cant even dig up a 200 year old coin.. Guess that's all of our punishment for living in America.. LOL no good history here!!

Thanks
