What is it made of? It kind of looks like a lead poker chip, the lead from an old rosette.

If it is lead, you can soak it in water for a couple days and lightly brush it with a tooth brush. The dirt and crude will come off without hurting the patina.

If it is a Soldier made poker chip, I would rather have that than a coin any day. Great find.

I'm leaning towards lead, if only because of the photographs. The coloration and cracking are what you might see in a lead piece that's been underground a long time. Do you remember the VDI reading? A lower reading will point toward lead and higher readings towards copper or silver.

It's lead, weight is .5772, that should be a .58 cal rifle ball or trade gun ball.
