the rain cut hunting to 3.5 hrs today. But I did manage to
find two buttons. The one is very large and about the
size of a half dollar. Biggest I've ever dug. the other
is just under size of dime.

and found a 1909 wheatie:

my first dug target was this - a large copper. I was excited
until I cleaned it and found it to be a "unidentified large cent".
It's just smaller in diameter than a George II copper but
there are no real markings left. I assume it was very old!

tomorrow will be a better day - no rain! HH!

It's the coins like those that make you go nuts trying to figure out what date/type it could be. Is it that rare key date coin? The more I look at them, the more likely I am to "see" the date/features I am hoping for.

oh well, add it to the ULC pile...

thanks guys!

Coin_Saver - thank you for the info!

I've come to accept that some large copper are just blank slabs and there's nothing you can doi about it. But I also realize that many will never get the chance to dig one where they live - so I'm still very lucky!

I figure they are circa 1720's - 1750's but I'm guessing.

Great finds!! Recently i dug 2 confederate eagle buttons. And 2 feet away, dug a half dollar size button, with an embossed lion on it. Turned out to be a turn of the century Lion of Lucerne button. 10 ft. farther, dug what i thought might be a large cent ( slightly bigger than a quarter ) all crusty like yours. Let it soak in water for 3 weeks and the stuff drifted off of it. Turned out to be a Southern Pacific token. Says in big letters SP Co Try putting your large cent in water for 3 or 4 weeks, and forgetting about it. Don't scrub it, and see what happens. Might work out like mine. HH

Maybe i'm having dillusions from my contusions, but i think i'm seeing letters around the border of your coin. Put it in water and let it soak a few weeks. See what happens. HH
