Some neat finds. One lead star button or seal of some sort. And I believe some sort of early hinged item from near where I found the GW button. Not sure on the age maybe someone can help me.

Anyone ever find a bear den or some sort of fox burrow in an old cellar hole? I have found a large one that I dont dare enter right now. 3 dead mangled turkeys around a very densely wooded large old cellar. 1830s. I can't even jump into it. Probably 7ft deep stone walls and about a 6 foot mound of some sort in the center. I didnt stick around to see who inhabited it. . Land owner said on the 200 acres hes seen a handful of bears over the last 3 or 4 years. Does anyone carry while detecting deep , deep in the woods? Or am I being too cautious. Nearest home is about .75 miles away.

Good luck at the new cellar hole and yes, please carry when in the woods for safety reasons! :icon_thumleft:

Trail cam is a good idea. Gen3 Glock 19 is my go to. I have to take a picture of what it looks like out there.. It's almost like a 10ft dirt igloo in the middle of this wooded cellarhole.

I haven't seen a button quite like that. I would have guessed it was a bridle button if it wasn't made of lead, and it might be too small. I like the design of it. Hope someone will have an ID.

Maybe a big cat? Do you have mountain lions in Maine yet? They've sure spread into the Midwest lately. Gary

Sounds like it's probably a Black Bear den in there.

We have some big cats. But bear is more likely. I wont be detecting near dark down there that's for sure. Luckily I always check in with the land owner hahah

Thanks! Yeah the button is the only oddball. Was hoping the star would mean military.
