I popped over to the (now, since my move) local coin shops, was disappointed to find that the one I had frequented in the past had gone downhill, a lot; it was now mostly on consignment, with an owner who was mostly going off of whatever the prices she'd gotten the stuff for. Read: overpriced, to the effect of Canadian silver dollars at $30+tax. However, she directed me to another place which I had missed before when I used to live in town. Turns out, their inventory and their prices were a lot better! I picked up a British 1902 trade dollar for $50, a 1853 Seated quarter in what I'd say is around Fine detail for $25, and a proof 1964 quarter for $5.

That's three spots in my collection I can say I've filled now!

Look over that 1853 quarter real well. There are several varieties. Some are worth a lot more than the common one. As long as the quarter is PR65 you did ok on that. Impaired proofs aren't worth much more than melt.

Thanks for the input, cudamark! What sort of markers would I look for on the 1853?

They had both with and without rays and various overdates and recut dates. You might want to get a good coin book with that info or do some searching online for examples.
