Anybody ever done it, thought about it? I like to play black jack and I know they still use halves. Man if only I knew about CRH when the slots used to use coin. The casino would have had a crap ton of coin on hand. And all you would have had to do is put a bill in the slot machine and then hit cash out.....would have been great. My parents live less than 2 miles from a huge Indian casino. It hey still use halves T the table but the slots are all tickets with no coin. About 2 years ago before I knew about CRH I had a bunch of change saved up and was going to dump at coinstar but since I happened to be visiting my parents my dad suggested asking the casino to exchange it since they would be happy to give you bills to play at the tables. It was a 2 g bucket full of mixed coin and they took it no problems and dumped it in there coin machine I had cash in 3 minutes. I am going for anywhere visit next weekend. I may try to dump but more importantly I am going to be eyeballing for silver at the tables. I may even Inquire at the cashier about rolls or boxs. What ya think?

Don't know, to young for Casino's I heard of good luck from asking tellers for rolls, or old coins...
Best of luck to you, you deserve it!
Wicka!

I believe that modern slot machines used (before they mostly went coinless) a comparator much like a Ryedale. They would not accept silver coins. So even though they would spit out a silver from their till as payment, that coin would not be accepted by the machine if someone attempted to put it back in. So many just likely went into someone's pocket whether they knew of silver coins or not. Not 100% sure on that, but thats what I have been told. At one casino I used to frequent often back in the 1990's and into this century, there was one older gentleman that was almost always at the poker tables CRHing halves as he played. He'd buy $300, search them, cash 'em in and do it all over again - all night long. I watched him do this for years and years until the casino went coinless. I personally saw him search tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. During all that time, I saw him pull 1 40%er. That particular casino used halves on their poker tables for rake purposes. I no doubt played MANY thousands of hands at that casino, and saw many many rolls of halves opened. During all that time, I saw only 1 40%er hit the table.

I know Immy (old school Vegas CRHer) used to search slot machines in the early days of this site here in Vegas when the slots used coin. And yes those machines DID accept silver coins, because he spoke of many silver finds in his posts. I went down to Freemont street a couple months ago and put a few Bens (paper Bens) into a couple of the few remaining coin op machines to test the theory... Cashed out about $500 in halves and about $100 in nicks... Got 1 war nick. Probably not a very efficient way to search anymore, but proof that there is some out there still.

HH!

When I go to AC I can see a rainbow of halves at all of the blackjack tables.

Hmmm, I guess I just have to go check it out for my self! With all the halves in that casino I find it hard to believe there is no silver.

I have heard that buffalo nickels are an easy score from slot machines. Just saying, never tried it myself.

It remains to be seen how much silver is there but just think how easy it would be to dump.

I know one casino I frequent (and also cash coin in at as well) the cage personnel collect themselves. When they rerun the halves they search them carefully and also have an album in the cage they are slowly filling.

There are two indian casinos that use halves at their table games where I live. I've tried buying them from every cage cashier in both places, denied every time. I almost had one of the cashiers sell me a whole box, only to have her supervisor rush up to her to deny the transaction.

CRH a casino 1st attempt = epic fail.....LoL, I sat at a blackjack table with my dad and started eyeballing the halves. The tray had two solid rolls and about 7 bucks loose. No silver rims in the loose.

That's as far as I got!! Lol!

My dad and I sat with a hundred each and we started winning right away. Had a few beers and was winning money so I completely forgot about the silver hahaha. I did notice upon cashing out my spoils that they had sorting machines that used the free hanging and (exposed )bags. Not sure what model. I didn't even ask the cashier anything as she seemed pretty miserable already...

So yea, that didn't work well. I can just imagine the days of endless rows of slot machines in the late 90's. when you walked in all you could here was ting ting ting ting as the coins hit the trays. I would actually hear it in my head for days after a trip. Every one walking around with 2-3 of those little buckets. Oh mayor could have went bananas in there. Putting a benji in a 1 slot hitting cash out and going through the Ike's at the machine and the endless dumping ability .....oh man....

dawg If I had access to a casino theyd probably have an 'eminem fee' for going in just about now
