hi all, Over the past weeks i have been slowly working some real junky ground in an old mine site. Well i found a part of a King Charles 11 part coin and a token that pre-dates white settlement .Well when i found a buckle .Crusader ided all the relics.Took a while to figure why such old coin and token. After reading a few things about the mining days there seemed to be a shortage of copper and brass in the area . So much was reused and sent to local foundries and blacksmith shops.I think is safe to say the old coin and token where to be melted down too. The buckle dates to a foundry that once stood next to the old hard rock mine i have working around. When the mine was closed there a huge pile of uncrushed tailings i managed to pick out about 50 grams of gold. Spent some time trying to get the historical facts and the under lined texts give some sort of idea of what went on. Theres also a pic of the old foundry, and mine share from the mine. Still working the site and theres heeps of junk.

tinpan the pic and info allowed to be used

Thanks for help cru ,Yes bound by history in this area , which dates back to 1830 but the recorded history is complete that gives a clear advantage when finding sites. That is something i will never run out of. This gold mining area covers about 1200 square km,s Always go to 2nd rate sites as the big sites like where the Welcome stranger and the Hand of Faith where found are worked out. 41 main gold reefs with 5500 recorded mines.

Excellent finds, TP :icon_thumright:
I'm not surprised at such early finds. I saw on Aussie forums that people found Roman and Saxon coins in the gold mining areas due to then shortage of currency in the colonies.
BTW, Princess Dagmar was a Great Duchess Maria Fedorovna of Russia and a sister to Teddy's wife, Alex. What's on the token?

thanks for the info on the mine name . All proclaimation coinage used in the mining days was clearly recorded . the govenor of Victoria at time proclaimed what was to be used mostly spanish, english, indian , dating between 1750-1837 .Some recorded in australian coin books. Yes Roman and Saxon coins have been found in Australia but never in my area.

Interesting that the texts quote kg's. Have they been reprinted from lb's?

Ah tinny, you tinny besterd (BTW, thats a term of affection downunder). The longer the time between your posts, the more gold I know you will have to show us and this post is no exception.

Almost 2 ozs, and gold is counted in USD, so thats not bad for a weeks work. You should consider going full time.

I know you do your research, but a lot of your luck is due to the karma bus which is parked firmly in your garage.

Your willingness to share your finds, locations, strategies and pics is unsurpassed in this forum.

Mate I reckon you should give serious consideration to running detecting tours. Build a humpy in your backayarda and the yanks will flock to you like gold to mercury.

Once again, congrats and continued good luck to you, you deserve it!

My 200th post! time for celebration, might get blind, any excuse is good enough! :headbang: :hello2:

I think that mine had about 1.8% return of gold per tonne, nowadays, 0.004% per tonne is considered profitable.
