While searching for an old homesite we stumbled onto civil war bullets. All together our small group dug about 8 bullets and melted lead. Me and my wife found the bullets pictured. Walking a short distance from the bullet cluster I located a high tone, out popped this spur. From the Gardner bullets I thought I had a CSA spur. This wasnt confirmed until I made it home and discovered this spur to be a "CSA Brandy Station Style" spur, mid war manufactured in Richmond Va.

Anyone have any good ideas to preserve this piece. I usually wax my iron relics and i wanna preserve the iron spinner. How would the brass looked once waxed.

Great saves!! Maybe you can just "spot treat" the rowel by itself without affecting the brass.

totally awesome spur, super high in the cool factor. makes me wonder (always does) was he in pursuit or being pursued when he lost it. of course he could have been on the ground fighting. we'll never know. :headbang:

What ever you do don't let any California snowflakes let them know you have a CSA item, they like to destroy history and anything CSA. They will call it racist. Good for you, great find.

Has it gotten that bad?

Very nice dig's , 'I'd likely wax or oil just the iron Rowl /Spinner & keep the Brass as is or scrape / brush the rust off as best I can then 'Keep it in a dry place'. FWIW

I really like the Gardner & the other lead.
