Two hour hunt this evening at a large field permission Ive had for several years. At least three colonial sites on the property with lots of good finds but no colonial era silver coinage. That is until tonight:headbang: Quarter cut Charles III Pillar 8 Reales8-). 1760-1772. Only my 4 Reales cob is heavier than this one

That's awesome! A friend of mine dug one a couple of months ago and I thought it would be a long time before another got posted. Congrats! Still looking for my first cut coin.

Thanks. Ive got some cut cobs, one cut Pistareen and a cut pine tree but this is my first cut milled 8 reales. They sure are thick and heavy. Rang up like a clad quarter

Thanks. I was pretty sure of what I had right away but I had to go rinse it off in a puddle before I could celebrate. A cut Pistareen would have been awesome but a cut 8 is mind blowing for me

Nice find. I have never found a quarter cut (2 bits) from an 8 reale, but I have found a 1/16 cut (half real), six 1/8 cuts (one real) and a 1/2 cut (4 reales). Cut 8's seem to be more common here than in eastern Maryland or Virginia.

Thanks. Cant remember the last time Ive seen one posted. Dare I say as rare as finding a complete 8 Reales. Im liking this one as much as my dated 17th century cobs

I haven't found a cut 8 reale since November 2012 although I have found several cut pistareens since then. But I wouldn't say as rare as an 8 reale considering I only have one 8R and seven cut 8Rs. I think it all depends on where you hunt.

I have found lots of cut coins! None of them were Spanish silver... they were pennies, nickels, and clads that had nasty run-ins with lawnmowers! :laughing7:

Those are so much fun to find and ID, I got one 8 reale cut in half to a 4 reale, same Charles III. Found it when they pulled up a sidewalk. Coins.jpg

Awesome piece of silver-something that I probably will never see in the dirt in my area.
