Yesterday we had torrential rain here all day, so expectations weren’t high for getting out today, but we gave it a go!

Shooting season here so finding a field on Saturday is more tricky, but the sheep have been taken off the Barn field, so we thought we would try there, we spent a lot of time here earlier on in the year, so slim pickings, but I saved the day! Himself found all the buttons and the musket ball, the rest were mine 😂 xx

Nice little Buckle, big old pot mend, bit of spur, picked up some more tessera and a ring pull (a Rare find for us) 😂 a tack pin, and strange button (?) more buttons, 3 toasted pre dec, and 3 lovely Romans I think the big one is a Sestertius…! xx

Nice Roman bronze
But I have to agree with the others that was one fine looking tab.
You can probably tell the Cap'n is envious when he views them.
He'll probably make an offer privately. 🤫

Congrats.

Coin looks primitive but highly social in nature. And relics when compared to the field view are such a contrast....
Such a coin as like a metal detecting writer mentioned could make quite a difference in a clawing for survival type hunger.
Ya , we know people were there in the past. But still....The place /area must have bustled.
Oh no , I wrote bustled.

[If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
And there's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder]

Can almost smell the smoke from the fires as a lady gets more than one raised brow passing through wearing a bustle. Livestock bells ignoring her fate entirely; as unrelated. And carrying on thier purpose. Accepted standard accessories for practical human benefit. Yet a spring loaded rear end to keep a dress clean begs the question of why so long a trailing fabric?
But then curly toes slippers don't need to milk goats either. Does she even glance at the residents?

(All you ever wanted to know about bustles , and more! l.o.l..)

That wooded hill looks like a tempting spot to detect. Any particular reason your digging shovel (Excalibur?) has extra steps welded onto it?

I know it does look tempting… But.. its part of the shoot, so will be full of rubbish… plus the field around it is not ours to detect unfortunately 😬 xx I thought all detecting shovels have that step bit..?? Saves breaking the soles of ur boots im told… but im not sure!! 🤔 xx

We're learning more all the time about how technically advanced ancient peoples were. Maybe that's a Roman pull tab........ If so, that would be an historical breakthrough that could be attributed to a blossom and be a feather in the cap for all MDers!
Ha ha! xx True True…🤔 maybe I should pop it in the collection that we are taking to the local FLO at the museum for recording! 😂😂 xx

Little Id on the big Roman, Himself is very excited… says it would be a dream find for him…. I’m a bit .. meh… tbh! 😂

It’s a Sestertius of Marcus Aurelius AD 161-80.

With all the shovels I've used, you just stepped on the top of the blade. Usually the top edge is bent over to make it wider and easier on your foot. It just looked like extra weight to carry to me, but, I didn't want to criticize in case you were born with 4 feet. :tongue3:

Excellent hunt, blossom. I don’t know much about the buttons and coins. I can shed some light on the ring pull tab. They were invented in my neck of the woods.

Sooooooo, we can blame WD and her folks for all of the pull tabs we find?!?!?🤣
