Dark Green Rock any Ideas?

I found this today while out rock hunting with a good friend of mine. We are not sure what it is, so I was hoping some one might know or have a good guess. New to rock collecting, got there via metal detecting....Its solid not to heavy kind of lumpy, but a dark green color, found by a creek, was digging when I found it.

Have a local jewelry maker cab it and set it in a necklace.
Or you could carve an elephant or budda!

Nice find. Looks like jade to me.

it looks like a very nice piece of nephrite or jade. You could have it carved into something really cool.

Yes jade. They find a lot of that in the ocean in Calif.

could also be chert
