Day 2 at Site - New Fun Finds

Found my first Civil War era button on Saturday hunting with fellow hunter Charlene at a seldom searched farm in eastern Virginia. Managed to dig up lots of iron while she was having some great finds, some of which she has shared with you already. On a second visit, I found the attached items. Mainly buckles, but a few other choice items too. I don't know anything about the bullet in the photo, although we (actually she) found several bullets with 2 or 3 grooves around base and a hollowed out bottom. The "one" that I found was solid without the grooves. The site also yielded part of a child's toy car indicating activity at the now vacant field up into at least the 1940's.

Very nice digs, WTG!!!
If I'm not misstaken, the Confederate army used the bullets with the rings around the bottom, and the Union army used some like the one you have pictured... ???
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

The crossed cannons button is US Army insignia for either Artillery or Ordanance Corps, I'm not sure which. I believe this insignia, or a similar updated version, is still in use. Look up US Army isignia, you should be able to find it. Very nice finds, by the way.

Winds were blowing so hard you couldn't hear a thing, I looked up across the field and saw Deeper strutting like a rooster in a hen house when he found that button. He's getting the hang of the DFX. Congrats Deeper, it sure was the best treasure of the day.

Like treasurekidd suggested, the crossed cannons are infact the emblem for the artillery. Day Dreamer, yours would be post-1957, thats when the missle was added to the insignia. -Ben
