Joined CCDAMEEK again to whip up on the dirt in in the woods. Got a couple of nice coins and a few relics...what else could ya ask for..
A few pieces of ammo and firearms related material. A piece to a parasol. A twisted up suspender clip along with a suspender button. Some hand wrought iron items. I also found another turpentine hack tool but left it with the landowners collection. He's trying to establish proof that there was definitely turpentine workings here. We've been loading his display table down with all the tools of the trade for that. I gave him 2 more box axes I found there and have another hack here that I'll leave for him next time out. He's also donating some of the finds to some local museums around our area which is cool! I didn't go very far today. All these finds were from an area I've been hitting hard that's just a small area of this huge place, but I believe I'm touring around where one of the old buildings was. Chip worked this area too and has been steady digging all day. Anyway, I think we both did pretty good for finding stuff out in the woods. Here's a few pix. I've got a few but waiting on Chip's permission to post his mug down in a hole....so his shot's will wait! I'll let him give his blow by blow description of one of his finds today!
Here's mine:

Man smallfoot, you were quick getting these posted! No body is going to mind my 'mug' posted here, but the poor saps that actually take a look!:laughing7:

First things first, here is a photo of your 'hack' tool, and the plow disk you dug up.

Now for my finds for the day!

IMG_20200415_172046236.jpg IMG_20200415_163722456.jpg

So, I'll Start with the 20 minute dig. Whipped my butt, but I recovered my target. The target rang up a perfect 11-38 at 6" deep, on my CTX-3030, which matches the 4 previous Indian Head Cents I have found on this property. Well, still no pin pointer signal down 12", than 18", and finally got a signal about 20". I'll let the photos do the talking....

IMG_20200415_133640666.jpg IMG_20200415_133648964.jpg The First sign of the target in the hole: IMG_20200415_131536267.jpg IMG_20200415_131312346.jpg

So I keep digging, and Smallfoot pulls out an old tomahawk axe, so I can chop a 3" root out of the way. Thanks for the help whacking that root smallfoot!

So here is the prize: IMG_20200415_133606959.jpg IMG_20200415_133558974.jpg And once at home: -2254102690513023844.jpg 7360363176477302726.jpg It is an old cast iron three footed cauldron.
Slightly damaged, but overall in amazing condition and is currently in a temporary electrolysis bath.

I also found a couple interesting other finds. For example, a 1900 Indian Head Cent: 1900 Indian Head Cent.jpg Before cleaning and after.

Also found a really cool suspender buckle I believe.
Bobbi suspender clip.jpg The figure is a caricature of an old Police Bobbi with the old pointed police helmet,
and he has a nightstick in his right hand, and a badge on his jacket. How cool is this!

Also found some other suspender parts.

Great hunt, and the property just keeps on giving.......

Good hunting all!

Pardon the poor pix, I used my dumb phone... IMG_0010.jpg IMG_0011.jpg IMG_0012.jpg IMG_0013.jpg IMG_0014.jpg

According to my shovel, the top of this pot was at 20 inches. Totally surrounded by roots but determination ruled...nice work Chip. Good to see one of these come out pretty close to whole which is rare around here!

Nice finds in the tropics. How's the bugs down there? Are there ticks in FL? I know there's skeeters. How are you guys surviving out there? Gary

To be honest with you, until yesterday afternoon, this central part of Florida had not seen but 1 day of light rain in the past 60+ days! Ponds and marshy areas are actually dry, which really helps on the skeeter problem. Also last week, the County did skeeter spraying.

As for ticks, Yes Florida has them too. But we haven't had any issue with them at this property, and I hope it stays that way.
But now it is SNAKE season! A few days ago, I had two snakes race past me, both catching me by surprise! But 'race' is the key word, as they were commonly known as 'Black Racers', and will bite if cornered, but are harmless. Haven't seen any "bad" snakes yet, but they are around and we have to watch out for them.

I always spray on a little bug repellent on my hands, and apply to my face, head & neck, just to keep the knat's away from my head. Smallfoot is an old backwoods soul, and seems to be unbothered by bugs. In his words, "rather get bitten by the bugs, than die of cancer from that darned spray".
