Brand new to the hunt, haven't bought a machine yet and thought I would start with a pin pointer. going to buy the garrett pro pointer. That being said I live in Granbury Tx and have a lot of places to hunt. I own 12 ac in Stephenville so I am going to start there. Thinking about which machine to use, would like a good ground/beach machine and will spend around 300 or so I guess. If I ask a dumb question it is ok to laugh, I used to do cave research for TXPW but the knees just don't like it anymore. Anyway if anybody lives around my area I am off weekends. and I am willing to listen and learn from those who know how it is done. Yes the cannons in the pic are ones I build and fire in my backyard. It is great living in the country.....:icon_thumleft:

Welcome to Tnet.

Those cannons look like a ton of fun.

There are no dumb questions, it's all good. Most of us, are really "into" detecting, and like to help others, paying it forward is the term, I believe.

Here is what I will tell you... I bought a $200 machine and used it for two months, then I bought a $700 machine and used it for three months, then I bought a $1500 machine, and have used it for the last 2.5 years. The $700 machine worked perfectly, however the $1500 worked even better!

The more expensive machines give you more information, it takes some time to "learn" the machines language, and exactly what it is telling you, but down the road, it is invaluable.

Perhaps someone local could take you out for a hunt, usually people have an extra machine, that way you could make sure that you are going to like the hobby, before jumping into it.

Don't hesitate to PM me if you have questions. Best of luck to you sir!

Welcome to the forum! This is an outstanding place to learn all about it. An older machine used that is perfect for the beach and pasture is the Sovereign GT if you can find one.
There are a number of choices new but you may have to spend more.
Awesome Cannon BTW!
Best of luck!
