Hi
Beautiful day today; got out for a couple of hours low tide mud hunting.
Got stuck in an area with loads of quarters...never found so many in such a small area ( approx. 10'x10').
Amid the quarters, I heard a nice "silver " sound, and when I scooped up the mud, was able to target the sound, but saw nothing except some mud and shells; I "zeroed" in on a shell the size of a "jigger"( the ones for measuring liquor) which was packed with mud and weeds; scraped out the mud and weeds, and there was a beautiful crucifix in the center of the shell!
It looked " iffy " for silver ; got home, cleaned it, tested it with acid test kit ( only marking on the back was "ITALY").
Well, the acid test was positive, but I was not convinced; started picking at the metal, and sure enough...off comes some of the coating like aluminum foil .
Next time....
Here's a couple of pics
thanks for reading me post and viewing my finds
