A nice little haul you'll take back to your colony pal. I take it you where in the south east. Certainly not my neck of the woods where those medieval hammered coins are pretty scarce.
As a detectorist I do envy my southern neighbours who tend to find more stuff in one session than I will in a month

Yes, what is the process for you to bring them home? I assume someone had to look at them. Do they give you anything to clear customs?

Anything older than 50yrs old must have an export license.
Each item is recorded with a picture and description.
Sent to the proper council fir approval.
Here is one of mine for an example.

I just don't want to get him in any trouble and possibly get him out of trouble.

I paid someone to identify and report them under the Portable Antiquities Scheme. This person also files an export license and will mail them to me when granted.

I thought this portrait looked more like John.
Never look at the portrait, nearly impossible to ID from that unless your an expert on die types.

The give away is the Mint starts SAN for Bury St Edmunds, so that makes it likely to be Henry III, the moneyer has to be either Norman or Jo(h)an.
